Authors' objectives:
To determine whether there is any evidence to support the (causal) association between a patient diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) (on the limb) and having dental pain or dental sensitivity.
Authors' results and conclusions:
258 published studies were identified from the literature searches. Upon examination on the titles and abstracts of these 258 published studies, six studies were thought to be relevant and were retrieved in full for further appraisal. No further study was identified from these manual searches. Of the six studies that were retrieved in full, none were relevant or provided any data that supporting the potential of having CRPS in different body part and having dental pain or dental sensitivity or any other dental issues. At present, there is no published data/study supporting potential dental issues, including dental pain or dental sensitivity, associated with having CRPS in other part of body, e.g. limb.
Authors' methods:
A comprehensive and systematic literature search was conducted on March 28, 2025. The search was done on commercial medical literature databases. Combination of keywords were employed in this literature search. No limitation, such as on the language or year of publication, was implemented in this literature search. A manual search was also conducted on the references of the articles that were retrieved in full. A further manual search was also done on the Evidence-Based Practice Group (EBPG) article collection on CRPS that accumulates as the results of EBPG previous systematic reviews on CRPS as well as the EBPG literature surveillance about CRPS.
