Authors' objectives: To determine whether there is any evidence to support the (causal) association in the relapse of (relapsing-remitting) multiple sclerosis and COVID-19 infection.
Authors' results and conclusions: Four hundred twenty-one studies were identified in the search. Upon examination on the titles and abstracts of these 421 studies, twenty studies were thought to be relevant and were retrieved in full for further appraisal. Of the twenty studies that were retrieved in full as the results of our literature search, three studies were in the form of systematic review with/without meta-analysis. Of these three systematic reviews, one251 review was irrelevant and two reviews we adopted and updated. Hence, there were seventeen studies that we needed to investigate in order to update the two systematic reviews that we identified, appraised and adopted. Of these seventeen studies, none were relevant or have not been included in two systematic reviews or provided new data; hence, these seventeen studies will not be discussed further.
Authors' methods: A comprehensive and systematic literature search was conducted on November 6, 2024. The search was done on commercial medical literature databases using a combination of key words. It should be noted that in identifying literature on COVID-19, we adopted COVID-19 search strings that was developed by the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health (CADTH) . Except for year of publication to 2019 (in association with Covid-19 development), no further limitation, such as on the language or country of publication was implemented in this search. A manual search was also done on the references of the studies that were retrieved in full.
