Efficacy/effectiveness of Cryoderm Cooling Gel®/Ligament Restore Supplement in treating lumbar sprain/strain

Authors' objectives: To determine whether there is any evidence to support the efficacy/effectiveness of Cryoderm Cooling Gel® in treating patient diagnosed with lumbar sprain/strain. Also, to determine whether there is any evidence to support the efficacy/effectiveness of Ligament Restore supplement in treating patient diagnosed with lumbar sprain/strain.
Authors' results and conclusions: No published study was identified from initial search. Nine published study was identified from a subsequent search. Examination on the titles and abstracts of the nine studies identified did not provide any relevant data. At present, there is no study to support the efficacy/effectiveness of Cryoderm Cooling Gel® or menthol to treat lumbar sprain/strain. At present, there is no study to support the efficacy/effectiveness of Ligament Restore supplement or glucosamine or collagen to treat lumbar sprain/strain.
Authors' methods: We began our systematic review by conducting internet searches in order to find more information on Cryoderm Cooling Gel® and Ligament Restore supplement. Using Bing search engine we searched these two products by employing a simple keywords of Cryoderm Cooling Gel as well as Ligament Restore supplement. In this search we found “Cryoderm Cooling Gel” has a “medicinal ingredient” of menthol and “Ligament Restore supplement” which is described as a blend of glucosamine, collagen, amino acids, and herbal extracts. We then incorporated the findings from these searches into our literature searches in conducting this systematic review. The literature search was done on April 18, 2024. The search was done on commercial medical literature databases. No limitation, such as on the language or date of publication or study design, was implemented in any of these searches. A manual search, on the references of the articles that were retrieved in full, was planned.
