Authors' objectives: To determine whether there is any evidence to support the efficacy/effectiveness or the role of brain mapping in treating patients who have sustained a concussion.
Authors' results and conclusions: Overall, there were 318 published studies identified in our literature search and after examining the titles and abstracts of these 318 studies, 16 were thought to be relevant and were retrieved in full for further appraisal. A manual search did not identify further primary study relevant to the objective of this systematic review. Of the 16 studies that were retrieved in full, eight studies were on brain mapping and concussion, a further eight studies were on qEEG and concussion while no study investigating the application of qEEG neurofeedback in concussion patient were identified. Examination on the full publication of these 16 studies that were retrieved in full failed to identify any study that is relevant to the objective of this systematic review. At present, there is no published study reporting on the application of brain mapping in patients with mTBI, investigating the efficacy/effectiveness of qEEG neurofeedback in treating patients with mTBI, and in investigating the role of qEEG in treating patient with mTBI.
Authors' methods: We began our search by conducting a simple, preliminary search of brain mapping on PubMed as well as on Bing search engine in order to develop further search strategy, if necessary. Based on the results of these preliminary searches, we then conducted formal search, in April 11 2024, on commercial medical literature databases by employing developed keywording from the preliminary search.
