Percutaneous intradiscal radiofrequency thermocoagulation for chronic discogenic low back pain

Authors' objectives:

This Assessment will review the available evidence to determine whether percutaneous intradiscal radiofrequency thermocoagulation improves health outcomes compared with placebo or conventional treatments such as surgery or medical management. The population of interest is patients with chronic discogenic low back pain. Health outcomes of interest are relief of pain, improvement in function, and adverse effects. The evidence on each of the various techniques for percutaneous intradiscal radiofrequency thermocoagulation will be reviewed separately.
