Authors' objectives:

The implantable miniature telescope (the IMT(TM) from VisionCare Ophthalmic Technologies, Inc., Saratoga, CA) is used to improve the vision and the quality of life of individuals with moderate to severe vision loss caused by dsyfunction of the macula.

Authors' recommendations: There is limited published evidence on the effectiveness and safety of the IMT, and its cost is unestablished. This technique may have potential in the market, as age-related macular degeneration becomes more prevalent because of the increased numbers of aged people.
