Original Title: Description des services gériatriques spécialisés et de leurs composantes organisationnelles et cliniques, au Canada (hors Québec) et à l'international
Authors' objectives: Increasing life expectancy in industrialized countries is giving rise to a steady rise in the number of people aged 65 and over living with chronic illnesses, disabilities or cognitive disorders, which requires care and service offerings to be adapted. In Quebec, a range of second-line specialized geriatric services (SGS) are offered at local or regional level to meet the needs of the elderly population. However, according to the inventory of SGSs carried out by the Regroupement des Unités de courte durée gériatriques et des services hospitaliers de gériatrie du Québec in 2023, second-line (specialized) service offerings differ between Quebec regions. In addition, the names of the various SGSs vary from region to region, making it difficult to determine and monitor whether service offerings are comparable throughout Quebec. At the request of the MSSS, INESSS has identified, from the literature, the main organizational and clinical components of SGS in Canada (excluding Quebec) and internationally, with a view to informing decision-makers on how to adapt these services to meet the needs of seniors in all Quebec regions.
