Original Title: Structures organisationnelles des groupes canadiens de transfert ou de mobilisation des connaissances au service de la recherche en milieu hospitalier universitaire et de l’évaluation des technologies de la santé
Authors' objectives: Through this environmental scan, we surveyed and consulted Canadian groups in knowledge transfer or mobilization (KTM) in university hospitals and health technology assessment agencies or units to obtain information on their operating structures, their types of work, their production capacities and their collaborations.
Authors' results and conclusions: Through this environmental scan, we surveyed and consulted Canadian groups in knowledge transfer or mobilization (KTM) in university hospitals and health technology assessment agencies or units to obtain information on their operating structures, their types of work, their production capacities and their collaborations. The survey responses, consultations and targeted literature search, which form the basis of this analysis, identified numerous barriers and facilitators to KTM. Barriers to KTM include: saturation of knowledge assimilation capacity, scarce human, financial and material resources, challenges related to project management, power asymmetry and hierarchical structures as well as a general lack of awareness and understanding of KTM. Conversely, KTM facilitators include: collaboration, capacity building as well as having a clear service offering.
Authors' recommendations: A strong message emerging from this work is the need to structure a KTM entity with mandate supported by the executive team, a clear service offering, as well as adequate human, financial and material resources to ensure that it will thrive, rather than merely survive, in its mission.
