Original Title: Eficacia, efectividad y eficiencia del tratamiento asertivo comunitario para las personas con trastorno mental grave y persistente y su relación con el contexto de aplicación
Authors' objectives: To identify the Assertive Community Treatment effectiveness in the social integration of people with serious and persistent mental disorder.
Authors' results and conclusions: RESULTS: Once the duplicates were eliminated, there were found 1619 references of which 288 were selected. After the abstracts reading, 220 articles were excluded, and from the reading of the complete text of the 68 remaining ones, there were 24 references included (18 studies) The average quality of the studies was of 2.33 out of 3. CONCLUSIONS: According to the results obtained in this review, especially in what concerns to ACT effects on hospitalization rates and duration, at present it does not exist solid evidence on the advantages of this model. There exists certain evidence on the ACT model being superior to usual treatment in the maintenance of patients’ contact and satisfaction, and in a minor degree there is also some evidence of a major residential stability for those homeless patients or patients at risk of being homeless. Nevertheless, these results do not show the desirable consistency across the different studies. This absence of differences might be explained partly by the possibility that traditional services may have progressively incorporated ACT model components.
