Authors' objectives:

The main objective of this report is to describe the early warning system for new and emerging health technologies in the Health Technology Assessment Agency (AETS) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III: SINTESIS - new technologies, and learn about the development and functioning of similar systems in other national and international institutions.

Authors' recommendations: SINTESIS - new technologies is a good early warning system for new and emerging health technologies. The identification and assessment of new technologies is similar to systems developed by other institutions, but SINTESIS - new technologies offers clear advantages with respect to other systems. Its development via a specifically designed computer application, gives the systems objectives the advantages of the new information technology. The system allows the collaboration of experts in a user-friendly way, aids in the elaboration of Technical Cards on new health technologies, and allows the diffusion, in an automatic way, of information on new health technologies. However, it is important to consider the means necessary to develop the system and to make the project successful.
