Original Title: Estimación del conjunto de valores para los estados de salud del EQ-5D-5L basados en las preferencias de la población española
Authors' objectives: The objective is to develop an algorithm for calculating the utilities of the Spanish population from the new questionnaire EQ-5D-5L, following the methodology proposed by the EuroQol Group, in order to enable Cost Utility Analysis and serve decision making in health policy in Spain.
Authors' results and conclusions: RESULTS: The results of the estimations for the three models using only main effects show that the hybrid method with main effects model is consistent, with a predicted utility for the worst health state (55555) of - 0.224. Both the random intercept model and the re-scaled conditional logistic model, presents logical inconsistencies. Therefore, we selected the results of the estimation of the hybrid model with main effects as the Spanish set of values for the EQ-5D-5L, based on criteria of consistency and parsimony. CONCLUSIONS: This report presents the methodology and results of the set of values for Spain for the EQ-5D-5L, obtained according to the study protocol assessment developed by the EuroQol group, with some of the authors of this report having been actively involved in its design. C-TTO and DCE data were collected during the study, what has allowed the development of a hybrid method that combines both data sources to estimate the set of final adjusted values. These values will allow researchers and HTA agencies to have a health unit or QALY in Spain to measure the effectiveness of the technologies under evaluation.
Authors' methods: To elicit preferences for health states of the EQ-5D-5L we use two methods, the composite time trade off (C-TTO), and discrete choice experiments (DCE). These have been applied to a representative sample of the Spanish population (N = 1000) using a questionnaire and a software that incorporates all parts of the protocol and collects all data from the interviews. Sampling was carried out by a process of stratification in two stages, first taking the Spanish provinces as strata, and then by a systematic sampling in each of the selected provinces. Models of each data type, C-TTO and DCE are built separately and combined the two in a hybrid model. The comparison between the models was performed using the criteria of logical consistency and parsimony of parameters.
