Original Title:
PrĂ³tesis de tipo pivote medial en artroplastia primaria total de rodill
Authors' recommendations:
"Conclusions
Moderate quality evidence shows that medial pivot prosthesis in primary total knee arthroscopy probably does not yield an additional benefit when compared with other prosthetic designs. The comparatively assessed results of efficacy and safety did not show a statistically and/or clinically significant difference between medial pivot prosthesis and other prosthetic designs.
The clinical practice guidelines surveyed do not provide a specific recommendation for the use of medial pivot prostheses when compared with other prosthetic implants in primary total knee arthroplasty. They do not mention clinically or radiologically significant differences between a stabilized (medial pivot) and a non-stabilized prosthesis.
The selected coverage policies from public health funders in Europe, Latin America and the United States of America, in addition to selected United States private health funders, do not specifically mention coverage of one preferred prosthetic model. Consequently, they do not make any special reference to the medial pivot prosthesis for primary total knee arthroplasty.
No economic studies conducted in Argentina or in any other country in the region assessing the cost-effectiveness or budget impact of the medial pivot prosthesis versus other prosthetic implants have been found. Therefore, the conclusion is that the cost-effectiveness of this technology is uncertain. It is worth mentioning that the conclusion of uncertain could turn to non-favorable if the cost of the medial pivot implant is compared with the posterior-stabilized prosthesis made in Argentina, as the difference in price between these two options is high, exceeding one health capitation value in Argentina."
