Original Title:
Paratiroidectomía por radiofrecuencia
Authors' recommendations:
"Conclusions
Radiofrequency ablation of the parathyroid glands in primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism did not prove to be superior to surgical parathyroidectomy, since low quality evidence showed that it could be equivalent to surgical parathyroidectomy, with the same significant net benefit by inducing cure with parathormone (PTH) and calcium levels returning to normal.
Moderate quality evidence shows that radiofrequency ablation of the parathyroid glands has the same benefits in primary and secondary hyperparathyroidism as microwave ablation in terms of inducing cure and returning PTH and calcium levels to normal.
Very low quality evidence does not allow to draw conclusions about the potential benefits of radiofrequency ablation of parathyroid glands when compared with laser thermal or high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation.
No clinical practice guidelines recommending or mentioning the technology for the surveyed indication have been found.
None of the health funders surveyed includes radiofrequency ablation of parathyroid glands in their coverage policies.
Although no cost-effectiveness or budget impact studies have been found in Argentina, the cost of this technology is significantly higher than its comparator: surgical parathyroidectomy."
