Authors' objectives:

This study aims to assess the effects of cochlear implants in adults with bilateral sensorineural deafness, compared with conventional hearing aids or any other treatment.

Authors' recommendations: We found limited evidence from small, non-randomised studies that adults who receive cochlear implants have better audiological outcomes and quality of life than adults who do not. The studies provided very little information on adverse effects.
