Authors' objectives:

This study aims to assess the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, alone or in combination with other treatments, on people with central retinal artery occlusion (RAO).

Authors' recommendations: We found no reliable evidence about the benefits of HBO in people with central RAO. We found two studies. Both studies identified were of a weak design and are unreliable for establishing benefits of treatment. Randomised controlled trials of this treatment are possible and should be undertaken to demonstrate the effectiveness or otherwise of this therapy.
