Authors' objectives: To summarise the issues concerning the diagnosis and therapy of reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
Authors' recommendations: Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is a chronic pain disorder, which is difficult to evaluate objectively. Very few randomised controlled trials have been performed to evaluate the efficacy of treatment regimens. Medical, rehabilitation and surgical therapy options are available and in common usage.
