Original Title: Højteknologiske hospitalssenge til anvendelse på intensive og neurologiske sengeafsnit
Authors' objectives: The number of high-tech hospital beds has steadily entered the Danish healthcare system without any assessment of the current evidence of effectiveness or other potential gains. This HTA aims to assess the value of high-tech hospital beds in selected hospital wards within the four perspectives: clinical effect & safety, patient, organizational implications, and health economy.
Authors' results and conclusions: Generally, the evidence within the specific subject field is very limited. This greatly affects the findings within the four perspectives. The Expert Committee concludes that there is not a sufficient amount of evidence to support this perspective. The same applies to the patient's perspective. Based on the collected data, there are potential organizational effects with the use of high-tech hospital beds compared to standard beds. The potentials are within the work environment and selected workflows. But there are also negative effects related to high-tech hospital beds such as time-consuming cleaning workflows. The Expert Committee notes that more evidence on potentials within organizational value is needed. The health economic assessment is also influenced by the limited evidence within the area. This affects the overall uncertainty of results. The cost analysis indicates lower costs are associated with high-tech hospital beds for unstable and stable intensive care patients. This is mainly due to a reduced use of resources related to specific work flows when compared to a standard hospital bed. However, the overall conclusion from the health economic perspective is that more evidence is needed.
