Authors' objectives:

This review aims to assess the effectiveness of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in the diagnosis and monitoring of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL).

Authors' recommendations: MSAC recommended that on the strength of evidence pertaining to safety, effectiveness and cost effectiveness of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in the diagnosis and monitoring of acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL), public funding should be supported for this procedure.
