Authors' objectives:

To ascertain the current state of knowledge regarding costs and benefits of prenatal screening programs.

Authors' results and conclusions: a) Published cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses of prenatal diagnosis for congenital anomalies focus on Down's syndrome and neural tube defects; b) Patau's syndrome, Edward's syndrome, hydrocephaly, aneuploidy, or inborn errors of metabolism have not had cost-benefit or cost-effectiveness studies completed.
