Authors' objectives:

The primary Assessment objective is to evaluate the outcomes of placental and umbilical cord blood stem-cell transplants (PCB-SCT) in adult patients who lack another donor. The indication for transplant may be to restore hematopoiesis after high-dose therapy for malignancy or to correct a nonmalignant bone marrow disorder. The Assessment focuses on transplants from unrelated donors, since adult patients rarely have cord blood available from siblings; non-sibling relatives often differ genetically at up to half the transplantation antigens.
