Authors' objectives:
The Head of the Ophthalmology Department and the Director of the Hotel Dieu Hospital, have notified the CEDIT that they wish to purchase a third generation excimer laser. This report aims to evaluate this technology.
Authors' recommendations:
The CEDIT recommends that the Hotel Dieu hospital should purchase a third generation excimer laser for the treatment of mild or moderate myopia. In the context of these indications, the CEDIT recommends that a patient register should be set up to make it possible, as far as possible, to assess the long-term results of the technology; the CEDIT further recommends that particular care be taken with regard to the duty to inform the patients. For disorders in which laser treatment remains to be validated, the CEDIT recommends that the evaluation should take place within the juridical framework of the Hurriet Law.
