Authors' objectives:
This aim of this report was to assess the validity of the venous thromboembolism risk factor assessment model as described by Motykie et al in the Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis (2000;9:253-62).
Authors' recommendations:
- The search revealed that the authors have not carried out a validation of their risk factor assessment model.
- We are not aware of other bodies who have carried out a validation of the model
- A Science Citation Index search revealed that no other authors have cited papers relating to the risk assessment model
- The authors themselves failed to mention any papers relating to the validity of the model. In 1991 the model was only a proposed risk factor assessment model.
