Record ID 32018005433
English
Authors' objectives: To determine whether there is any evidence to support a causal association between care aide work and the subsequent development of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS).
Authors' results and conclusions: There were no published studies identified through search No. 1, 2 or 3. We also retrieved nine published systematic reviews (level of evidence 1. Appendix 1) on the risk factors of carpal tunnel syndrome and one large dataset, derived from the state of California’s workers’ compensation system, on industries/occupations associated with the reports of carpal tunnel syndrome, as reported within that state from 2007-2014. The occupation of “Care Aide” was not one of the occupations reported within this dataset. At present, there is no published study supporting any (causal) association between working as a care aide (or health care assistant) and developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
Authors' methods: A comprehensive and systematic literature search was conducted on December 14, 2021. This literature search was done on commercial medical literature databases where a combinations of keywords were employed in this search.
