Low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) for preventing fractures
WorkSafeBC Evidence-Based Practice Group, Martin CW
Record ID 32018005364
English
Authors' objectives:
To determine if there is any evidence that low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) may be able to prevent fractures, particularly those associated with stress injuries.
Authors' results and conclusions:
Upon examination on the titles and abstracts of these one-hundred twelve studies, no study provided any information on LIPUS application in preventing fracture following any type of injury. Regardless, two (expert) review studies on stress fractures were retrieved in full for further appraisal. No further study was identified from manual searches. Neither of the two (expert) review studies discussed LIPUS for preventing stress injury associated fractures. At present, there is no published study reporting the application of LIPUS in preventing fracture, including those post-stress injury.
Authors' methods:
A comprehensive and systematic literature search was conducted on August 16, 2023. The search was undertaken by employing a simple combination of keywords. No limitation, such as on the language or date of publication, was implemented in this search. Manual searches on the references of the articles that were retrieved in full were also conducted.
