Authors' objectives:
Following a request from the Department of Health, HIQA agreed to provide an overview of the evidence on the potential use of multiplex antigen near-patient tests to detect SARS-CoV-2 and one or both of influenza and RSV in residential and primary care settings. This report provides an overview of multiplex antigen near-patient tests, the burden of respiratory tract infections, examples of use and guidance nationally and internationally, and an overview of the evidence for the effectiveness and utility of multiplex antigen near-patient tests in primary and residential care settings.
