Original Title: Les systèmes de gestion des informations en anesthésie
Authors' objectives: Paper anesthetic records require considerable logistics and have many weaknesses, as they may be incomplete, difficult to read due to poor handwriting, or untraceable. Efforts to address these issues and the need for accurate capture and interpretation of medical data have led to the advent of Anesthesia Information Management Systems (AIMS). In this context, the Department of Anesthesiology at the Quebec Heart and Lung Institute – Laval University (Institute) requested that the Health Technology Assessment Unit (HTAU) determine the clinical relevance of an AIMS to the practice of anesthesiology at the Institute.
Authors' results and conclusions: The literature search identified three randomized clinical trials, 11 non-randomized studies, and one evidence-based practice guideline on the safety and clinical efficacy of AIMS.
Authors' recommendations: It was recommended that an AIMS be used for recording medical information in the health record of people undergoing anesthesia. This is a conditional recommendation based on low- or moderate-quality evidence. The drafting of a decision by the administration will require substantial debate and the involvement of different stakeholders.
