Authors' objectives: We planned to evaluate the policy of annual mammography in women aged 40–49 years with a significant family history of breast or ovarian cancer. The major questions were 'What is the likely effect of the surveillance on future mortality from breast cancer?' and 'At what cost is this effect on mortality achieved?'. The study is referred to as FH01.
Authors' recommendations: Study found annual mammography in women aged 40-49 years with a significant family history of breast or ovarian cancer is both clinically effective in reducing breast cancer mortality and cost-effective.
