Authors' objectives: To determine whether there is any evidence to support the efficacy and/or effectiveness of functional neurology (as practiced by the Plasticity Centers - https://plasticitycenters.com/), as treatment for post-traumatic brain injury.
Authors' results and conclusions: At present, there is some evidence, mainly in the form a case report (level of evidence 5. Appendix 1) on the efficacy and/or effectiveness of FN as treatment post-TBI. However, selection bias, low clinical significance and conflict of interest of the authors may affect the reporting outcomes.
Authors' methods: A comprehensive and systematic literature search was conducted on commercial medical literature databases on March 18, 2022. We began our systematic review by collecting further information regarding functional neurology from the Plasticity Centers website (https://plasticitycenters.com/) and using the information available on this website to develop our literature search strategy. We then developed keywords used in the systematic review, including keywords based on the functional neurology (FN) approach, potential experts on FN, the clinic's founder and potential applications of FN. It should be noted that, although there is a resource section on the Plasticity Centers website (https://plasticitycenters.com/resources/blog-articles/), there were no scientific articles relevant to FN, nor any articles relevant to the objective of this systematic review available. For full search strategies and findings, see methods and results section of our paper.
