Authors' results and conclusions: Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA) were contracted by the Australian Government Department of Health to review the previous and develop new Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC)Guidelines. The guidelines provide advice to applicants and assessment groups on the health technology assessment (HTA) methods that are used throughout the MSAC assessment pathway. The guidelines apply to all requests for public funding that fall within MSAC’s remit, including Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) services, national screening programs, blood products for the National Product List, and technologies that may be funded via other mechanisms. AHTA were guided by a steering committee comprising members of the Department and experts from the HTA committees. Extensive public and stakeholder consultation was undertaken during the development of the Guidelines.
