Adherence to cholesterol-lowering drugs in Saskatchewan
Thompson L
Record ID 32002000873
English
Authors' objectives:
This report aimed to find out how long patients stay on cholesterol-lowering drugs they are prescribed, how regularly they take them, and what factors predict whether patients continue to take them.
Authors' recommendations:
Practice guidelines and recommendations were developed by the study panel. They recommend that patients and their doctors focus less attention on cholesterol testing and treatment and more on other factors contributing to risk of heart disease. The working group concluded that smoking, physical inactivity, diabetes, a large waist measurement, and high blood pressure each play at least as large a role as cholesterol levels in increasing a person's risk of heart disease.
