Original Title: Colonoscopía virtual de screening de cáncer colorrectal en pacientes con enfermedad diverticular
Authors' recommendations: No studies directly comparing the use of computed tomography virtual colonoscopy against other diagnostic methods (excluding double contrast barium enema) for colorectal cancer screening in patients with diverticular disease have been found. The decision on the method of choice could be based on clinical considerations and patient preference and questions such as accessibility to the different screening methods. Moderate-quality evidence suggesting that virtual colonoscopy is more sensitive than double contrast barium enema for colorectal cancer screening in the general population was found; this could also apply to patients with diverticular disease. Public and private health sponsors from high-income countries cover virtual colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening in patients with a history of incomplete colonoscopy or with contraindications for this procedure. This technology is neither mentioned in the Mandatory Medical Program nor reimbursed by Argentina’s Unique Reimbursement System. This technology is recommended by the clinical practice guidelines as a colorectal cancer screening technique and, in Argentina, the National Cancer Institute recommends it as a valid screening method after an incomplete colonoscopy. The cost-effectiveness of this technology is unknown in Argentina.
