Original Title:
Embolización o escleroterapia de venas pelvianas en síndrome de congestión pelviana
Authors' recommendations:
No studies comparing pelvic vein embolization or sclerotherapy versus laparoscopic pelvic vein ligation or versus medical treatment (analgesics and hormone replacement therapy) for the treatment of pelvic congestion syndrome were found.
Very low-quality evidence does not allow to draw conclusions on the effectiveness and safety of this technology.
No specific clinical practice guidelines giving recommendations on pelvic congestion syndrome treatment have been found, only the chronic venous disease guideline from the American Society for Vascular Surgery, which mentions it as an alternative.
Most Latin American, European and United States health funders do not cover this technology as it is considered experimental. Only one United States health funder covers is only when chronic pelvic pain does not respond to medical treatment and when diagnosis is confirmed by venogram or magnetic resonance imaging.
The cost-effectiveness of this technology, assessed for this indication, is unknown in Argentina.
