Original Title:
Vasectomía sin bisturí versus vasectomía convencional
Authors' recommendations:
Moderate-quality evidence suggests that no-scalpel vasectomy is a safe technique and that significantly reduces the incidence of short-term complications such as bleeding and bruising, infections and scrotal pain, when compared with conventional vasectomy (with scrotal incision). The procedure efficacy does not depend on how the scrotum is approached but on the deferens ductus occlusion method, which has not been assessed in this paper.
All the clinical practice guidelines consulted mention no-scalpel vasectomy as an alternative to surgical contraception.
No economic evaluations comparing the technologies with or without scalpel have been found. Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, the United Kingdom and France cover vasectomy although the no-scalpel technology is not specifically mentioned. Most United States private and public health funders consulted do not consider or specifically mention covering any type of vasectomy.
