Original Title: Dieta cetogénica en epilepsia refractaria
Authors' recommendations: CONCLUSIONS Moderate quality evidence suggests that in patients with refractory epilepsy, following a ketogenic diet in addition to the standard care would decrease the frequency of seizure episodes. Most clinical practice guidelines surveyed consider that the ketogenic diet is a treatment alternative for children and teenagers with refractory epilepsy. No coverage policies from health sponsors, both public and private, explicitly mentioning coverage of this diet have been found. One United States private sponsor covers hospitalization prior to ketogenic diet initiation. No economic studies have been found assessing cost-effectiveness of a ketogenic diet for refractory epilepsy.
