CONCLUSIONS
Very low-quality evidence does not allow drawing conclusions on the effectiveness or safety of stereotactic body radiation therapy in patients with unresectable non-metastatic pancreatic cancer versus other types of radiation therapy.
Low-quality evidence sug gests that chemotherapy combined with stereotactic body radiation therapy in patients with unresectable non-metastatic pancreatic cancer would be as effective as chemotherapy combined with modulated-intensity radiation therapy and might extend survival in two months when compared with conventional radiation therapy plus chemotherapy. The use of stereotactic body radiation therapy might reduce local pain at short term, later returning to the previous pain level.
Some clinical practice guidelines consider it a promising option for these patients; however they recommend offering it only in the context of research protocols.
Only some United Stages private sponsors cover it for selected patients with unresectable non-metastatic pancreatic cancer.
