Original Title: Artroscopia de cadera. Indicaciones de uso adecuado.
Authors' objectives: To develop criteria for appropriateness in treatment with arthroscopy for osteoarthritis and in femoroacetabular impingement.
Authors' results and conclusions: Usually, hip arthroscopy was considered inappropriate as a surgical treatment for osteoarthritis. Hip arthroscopy was considered appropriate as a surgical treatment of FAI with articular symptoms and related to the duration of symptoms, the age and the alteration in functional capacity.
Authors' methods: The RAND/UCLA methodology was used for the indication criteria (appropriateness of arthroscopy). For it, a review of the literature on the effectiveness and safety of hip arthroscopy was carried out (until April 2016), focused in osteoarthritis and FAI. Subsequently a list of indications was elaborated with the documents and the collective judgement of experts (11 traumatologists and surgeons). Finally, a panel of experts scored the appropriateness in two rounds. Scores were analyzed considering the degree of agreement among experts.
