Authors' objectives:

This report aims to assess the effectiveness of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for staging cervical and endometrial cancer.

Authors' recommendations: MSAC recommends on the strength of evidence pertaining to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for staging of cervical and endometrial cancer that: 1. Public funding should be supported for MRI staging of histologically proven cervical cancer at FIGO stages IB or greater following assessment by examination under anaesthesia; 2. At present there is insufficient evidence to support public funding for MRI in patients with recurrent cervical cancer but further studies may require this issue to be reviewed in the future; and 3. Public funding should not be supported for MRI staging of endometrial cancer at this time.
Authors' methods: Systematic review
