Authors' objectives:
This report is a follow-up on the KCE report HTA 306 on the effect of statins (cholesterol-lowering drugs ) in the primary prevention of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) published in January 2019.1 This report is mainly based on information contained in that previous report, but it but also contains some recent new evidence. Its main aim is to develop an electronic decision aid to enhance shared decision making (SDM) between patients and physicians on preventive measures in the primary prevention of CVD. We defined primary prevention, in this context, as the avoidance of a first CVD event.
