Authors' recommendations: Evidence of low quality on 3D echocardiography for heart valve diseases suggests that it would show a mild improvement in its diagnostic capacities when compared with conventional echocardiographic technologies (M mode, 2D and Doppler), although its clinical usefulness is uncertain. The clinical practice guidelines do not recommend 3D echocardiography in most of the indications, although some of them mention its potential usefulness in mitral stenosis. The United States health sponsors that mention 3D echocardiography cover it for preoperative assessment before complex cardiac procedures; some of them also include it in mitral stenosis assessment.
