Authors' recommendations: The evidence supporting the use of reduction mammaplasty to relieve symptoms in patients with breast hypertrophy is of low quality. The results indicate that it would be useful in reducing clinical symptoms such as back pain; and it would improve the quality of life of the patients. The clinical practice guidelines consulted agree on recommending this practice in symptomatic patients; however some details may vary in the criteria the patients should meet for its indication.
