Authors' recommendations: Very low-quality evidence does not allow drawing conclusions on activated charcoal for preoperative localization of thyroid cancer recurrence, although it might be useful in identifying deep and difficult access lesions in patients with prior surgery in the relapsed area. Only two clinical practice guidelines suggest its potential use in thyroid cancer recurrence and no coverage policies were found mentioning this technology.
