Authors' recommendations:
Evidence of moderate quality shows that the multiplex PCR system (FilmArray®) in the etiologic diagnosis of respiratory, gastrointestinal, neurological infections and sepsis has a high sensitivity and specificity. However, there is scarce evidence that its diagnostic utility is translated into clinical benefits or for the health system.
The clinical practice guidelines do not mention the multiplex PCR panel (FilmArray®) among the diagnostic tests for these conditions.
The coverage policies consulted do not cover, mention, or consider investigational the multiplex PCR panel (FilmArray®) for the diagnosis of the previously mentioned infections.
