Authors' objectives:

This report presents a global view of ischemic heart disease (IHD) hospital management in Spain, assessing hospital discharges and diagnostic and coronary revascularization procedures, and establishing the opportunities for assessing quality and effectiveness in treating this condition through an administrative database.

Authors' recommendations: CMBD-AETS includes 90% of AMI, 65% of PTCA, and 90% of CABG performed in Spain. CMBD-AETS could help to overcome the limitations of lack of clinical information and generalizability of the clinical registries available in Spain. Procedure utilization in Spain is low. Outcomes could be improved. Women, older people, and with higher comorbidity show lower utilization and higher mortality.
Authors' methods: Observational study
