Authors' recommendations: Moderate-quality evidence has not demonstrated that hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lenses offer additional benefits compared to other types of intraocular lenses (hydrophilic acrylic, silicone or polymethyl methacrylate) after cataract surgery due to uveitis. The clinical practice guidelines identified do not recommend any material in particular for intraocular lenses in these patients. Most U.S. public and private coverage policies cover intraocular lenses, however, most of them consider hydrophobic acrylic lenses to be very expensive and do not cover them. In Argentina, the Mandatory Medical Plan covers the extracapsular intraocular lens implant, not specifying any material in particular.
