Authors' recommendations: Scarce and low-quality evidence has not proved the additional clinical benefits of elastomeric pumps versus other analgesic administration devices for pain management in a hospital setting. The evidence on infusion of other drugs such as chemotherapy agents, antibiotics, antiviral and chelating agents is not enough. No studies have been found comparing the use of elastomeric pumps in an ambulatory setting versus other devices in a hospital setting. Some clinical practice guidelines consider its use for analgesics and chemotherapy administration. Coverage policies do not include them or mention them among their covered options.
