Authors' recommendations: There is moderate quality evidence identified showing that Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) showed certain identifiable neurometabolic patterns in patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression and social anxiety disorder, but the evidence is not enough as to suggest any diagnostic implication. The literature describing the applicability of MRS in treatment effect assessment is even more limited and of very low quality. As regards the usefulness of magnetic resonance with tractography in psychiatric disorders, the evidence is also insufficient for its diagnostic and therapeutic applicability. There are no specific clinical practice guidelines and the coverage policies consider them as experimental, of insufficiently standardized interpretation and of no clinical use.
