Authors' recommendations:
There is evidence of moderate methodological quality assessing sutureless (23G, 25G) vitrectomy for vitreous humor and retinal conditions. The studies identified do not show relevant benefits as to shorter surgery times or post-surgery complications when compared with the standard vitrectomy with sutures, although this technology might result in increased comfort to patients and in certain conditions as in the case of patients with glaucoma or at risk of retinal ischemia to reduce perioperative intraocular pressure observed with the 23G technology.
Vitrectomy is described in the clinical practice guidelines surveyed, but the chosen technology is not specified. The same happens with coverage by health sponsors and regulatory agencies.
