Authors' recommendations: There is evidence of good quality indicating that cervical arthroplasty is at least equivalent to standard anterior cervical discectomy and fusion in terms of clinical effectiveness for the treatment of patients with degenerative intervertebral disc disease refractory to non-surgical treatment. There is a moderate amount of good quality evidence indicating that cervical arthroplasty might be slightly better, in terms of less need for surgical reinterventions and short and mid-term clinical outcomes. Some of the health organizations surveyed include its coverage, but others do not because it is a more expensive procedure and they consider there is not enough evidence about their superiority compared with standard treatment. The Argentine Unique Reimbursement System includes vertebral disc replacement prosthesis.
