Authors' recommendations: The existing evidence on mechanical insufflation-exsufflation assisted coughing in children and adults with neuromuscular diseases is scarce and of low methodological quality, therefore it can not be determined if it is clearly beneficial when compared with other therapeutic alternatives. However, several clinical practice guidelines and coverage policies cover its use as an alternative for the management of secretion in certain patients with neuromuscular diseases with cough peak expiratory flow of less than 270 L/ min.
