Authors' recommendations: Purpose of Technology: Multimodality intraoperative monitoring (MIOM) is increasingly being used during surgical procedures to identify neurological deficits, in "real-time," in an effort to prevent permanent neurological damage. MIOM involves a variety of neurophysiological techniques, including: somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs), motor evoked potentials (MEPs), and electromyography (EMG). Relevant Questions: Can MIOM accurately detect/predict neurological deficits associated with corrective surgery for spinal deformities? Does MIOM decrease the incidence of postoperative neurological complications associated with corrective surgery for spinal deformities? Is MIOM during corrective surgery for spinal deformities safe? Have definitive patient selection criteria for the use of MIOM during corrective surgery for spinal deformities been established?
